In this tutorial you use the office builder to try out a new room: you draw it, give it a doorway, furnish it, save it as a draft and publish a version. It is a good way to plan a redesign of your office or to explore what HyoNova's builder can do.

Before you start#

  • Who can do this. In a company office, only owners and admins see Build office. In the trial office at https://app.hyonova.com/start, anyone can open the builder — a good place to experiment.
  • A mouse. Drawing walls and rooms uses click-and-drag on the floor.
  • A quiet moment. Because the builder takes you out of the live office, don't open it while colleagues are waiting to talk to you.

Step 1: Open the builder#

  1. Enter the office. Open your office from the company workspace, or start the trial office.
  2. Open Build office. Select Build office on the left rail, or press Ctrl + K and choose Start build mode.
  3. Get your bearings. The camera switches to the isometric view. The Asset library is on one side, the Inspector on the other, and the tools are in the bar at the bottom. The header shows Draft and the office name.

Step 2: Draw a room#

  1. Choose the Room tool. Select Room in the bottom bar. The hint strip says Drag a rectangle to create a room.
  2. Set up the room first. In the Inspector, enter a Name, choose a Type (meeting, workspace, social, executive, focus or lobby), a Material for its walls (glass, plaster or oak) and a Capacity.
  3. Drag on the floor. Press and drag a rectangle where the room should go, then release. The room appears with four walls and one doorway.
  4. Check the room. Choose Select in the bottom bar and click the room to see its name, size and type in the Inspector. You can change its bounds and floor material there.

A room must be at least 2.5 × 2.5 m, fit inside the floor and not overlap another room. The hint strip tells you when a rectangle is too small. If the room is not where you wanted it, press Ctrl + Z to undo and draw it again.

Step 3: Add a second doorway#

Every new room already has one doorway. To add another — for example, on the side facing the kitchen:

  1. Choose the Door tool. Select Door in the bottom bar. The hint strip says Click a wall to insert a doorway.
  2. Click one of the room's walls. A doorway is cut into the wall where you click.

To draw extra walls or glass partitions, use Wall or Glass and drag one straight line along the floor. Esc cancels a wall you are drawing.

Step 4: Furnish the room#

  1. Find an item. In the Asset library, type in Search furniture, plants…, or pick a category such as Desks, Seating or Plants.
  2. Pick it up. Click the item's tile. The hint strip says Click or drag into your office. You can also drag the tile straight onto the floor.
  3. Choose a direction. In the Inspector, choose one of the four directions, or press R to rotate by 90°.
  4. Place it. Click the floor inside your room. You can keep clicking to place more of the same item.
  5. Stop placing. Choose Finish placing in the Inspector.

Star an item to find it again under Favorites. Recent and Most used also help when you furnish several rooms.

Step 5: Fine-tune#

  1. Select an object. With the Select tool, click a piece of furniture.
  2. Adjust it. In the Inspector, use Move, Rotate, Duplicate or Delete, or type exact values under Position and choose Apply changes. Pick a colour under Material if the item has variants.
  3. Use the grid. Turn Snap on and choose a grid size of 0.25 m, 0.5 m or 1 m for tidy rows of desks. Grid shows or hides the grid lines.

Keyboard shortcuts while building: Delete deletes the selection, R rotates 90°, Ctrl + D duplicates, Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Shift + Z undo and redo.

Step 6: Save a draft#

Select Save draft in the bottom bar, or press Ctrl + S. HyoNova confirms that the draft was saved on this device. A dot next to Draft in the header means you have edits that are not saved yet; it disappears when you save or publish.

Step 7: Publish locally#

  1. Select Publish in the bottom bar.
  2. Read the confirmation. HyoNova shows Office published locally · version followed by the version number.
  3. Check the version. The footer of the Asset library shows the Published version on this browser.

This version is visible only in this browser. It is not shared with your company.

Step 8: Leave the builder#

Select Work mode in the bottom bar. Your edits stay in this browser as a draft. Then reload the page, or enter the office again from the company workspace, to rejoin your team in the shared office.

To keep a layout safe or move it to another browser, use the download button at the bottom of the Inspector to export it as a JSON file. Your saved layouts are listed in My worlds in the builder header. See Drafts and publishing.
