A call is a private conversation between two members. You ring a colleague, their screen shows the incoming call, and once they accept you talk with audio, and video or screen sharing if you want. Nobody else in the office can hear a call.

Who can call whom#

  • Owners, admins, managers and employees can call any other member of the company. Restricted members cannot make or receive calls.
  • You cannot call someone who is on Do not disturb. The Call button is hidden for them, and if you try from elsewhere HyoNova says "This person is not taking calls right now. You can send a message instead."
  • You cannot call an office visitor (guest). Talk to visitors with spatial voice or send them a message.
  • You can be in one call or meeting at a time. If you are already in one, HyoNova asks you to "Leave the current meeting first."

Before your first call: check your devices#

Open Devices in the meetings panel (More › Meetings & calls, or in a call) to choose your Microphone, Speaker and Camera and test them:

  • Test microphone shows a Microphone level meter while you speak.
  • Preview camera shows your camera image. Stop preview turns it off.
  • Test speaker plays a test sound through the chosen speaker.

"Preview stays on this device. Joining never turns on your microphone or camera." Your browser asks for permission the first time; if you block it, allow it in the browser's site settings.

Start a call#

  1. Find the person. In the office, click their nameplate, or open People and find their row.
  2. Choose Call. HyoNova creates a call named "Call with" and their name, opens the meetings panel and connects you.
  3. Wait for an answer. The call rings on their side for up to 45 seconds. Its status shows Ringing.
  4. Talk. When they accept, the status changes to In call. Turn on Mic — and Camera if you want video.

You can also start a call from New meeting: in the list of colleagues, the phone button next to a name calls that person directly.

If nobody answers in time, the call is marked Missed. If they decline, it is marked Declined.

Answer or decline a call#

When someone calls you, a banner appears: Incoming call with the caller's call name. Select it to open the call, then choose:

  • Accept call to join. You join with your microphone and camera off.
  • Decline to end the call. The caller sees it as Declined.

You receive calls while you are in the office, or while the Meetings page of the company workspace is open.

During a call#

ControlWhat it does
MicTurns your microphone on or off.
CameraStarts or stops your camera.
Share screenShares a screen, window or tab. Stop sharing ends it.
Raise handShows a raised hand next to your name. Lower hand removes it.
DevicesOpens the device settings and tests.
LeaveLeaves the call. In a call between two people, this ends it for both.
Hold to talkKeeps your microphone on only while you press and hold the button (or hold Space or Enter while it is focused).
ReactionsSends 👋 ❤️ 👏 🎉 👍 ☕ to the other person for a moment.

If your browser blocks sound, choose Turn on meeting audio.

Layouts#

Choose how the call is shown:

  • Spatial keeps the call compact so the office stays visible, and shows a shared screen when there is one.
  • Grid shows everyone in equal tiles.
  • Speaker shows the person who is talking.
  • Presentation shows the shared screen. If nobody is sharing, you see "No one is sharing a screen."

Calls and spatial voice#

While you are in a call, people standing near you in the office cannot hear you. The voice status shows "Private call — the office cannot hear you." When the call ends, spatial voice works as before.

Call history#

Your calls appear in Your meetings & calls in the meetings panel, with their status: Ringing, Accepted, In call, Declined or Missed. You can open a past call to see its chat.

Privacy and security#

  • Calls are Encrypted in transit. End-to-end encryption is not available.
  • Calls are not recorded.
  • Your microphone and camera are always off when you join, and only you can turn them on.

Limits#

Calls are in Beta. Today a call is always between two members: you cannot add a third person — create a meeting instead. There are no phone numbers or dial-in, and no voicemail. Camera video and screen sharing depend on your company's plan.
